Packing Shoes The Right Way
Some people keep all of their shoes carefully organized in a shoe hanger, while others just throw them on the closet floor. Either way is fine most of the time but when packing shoes for a move, it is important to be careful so that they are not damaged in transit. Packing them the wrong way could cause shoes to get crushed, broken or even damaged from moisture.
Ideally, packing shoes would be easy, but only if the original boxes were saved. If someone has managed to keep the boxes from most of their shoes, this is the best way to go. A shoebox will keep the shoes safe in their original shape and protect them from moisture. Once all of the shoes are in their boxes, simply place the shoeboxes in a larger moving box.
Of course, not everyone who is packing shoes will have access to all of the original boxes. In this case, each pair of shoes should be individually wrapped in packing paper. Once they are wrapped, place them sideways on the bottom of the box instead of piling them directly on top of each other.
When it does come time to start layering the shoes in the box, be sure to put padding in between each layer. It is also important to remember that, when packing shoes, the heaviest and most durable shoes should go on the bottom. It would be a shame to ruin a beautiful pair of soft flats because they got packed underneath winter boots, so pay special attention to which shoes are going where.
Packing shoes properly may seem tedious, but nobody wants to have to replace all of their shoes just because they moved to a new home. The ideal situation for moving shoes would be to put them in the shoeboxes they came in. If this is not possible, be careful to wrap each shoe and pack them so that they arrive safely and can be worn for many more years.
