Packing Jewelry To Keep It Safe In Transit During A Move
When moving, there is always the chance that something delicate or precious could be lost or broken. Delicate items such as jewelry can be a challenge because there are so many ways in which they could get broken or tangled. When packing jewelry, there are a few things that can be done to help get everything to the new home safely.
When packing jewelry, one of the biggest challenges will be pieces that have chains, such as bracelets or necklaces. These items become tangled so easily when they are sitting in a jewelry box, it is difficult to imagine moving them without a problem. One excellent tip is to slip each of these pieces into a straw so that it maintains its shape and does not become tangled with another item. Then simply rubber band all of the straws together and place them in a bag or box.
Another item that can cause trouble when packing jewelry is earrings. Like necklaces and bracelets, they have the potential to get tangled and hooked together. It is best to pack each pair of earrings in their own plastic bag and then wrapping the bags with padding before putting them in the box. This will avoid both tangling and breakage while the jewelry is in transit.
When someone is packing jewelry that is irreplaceable, such as a precious family heirloom, it is a good idea to put it in a box that will be traveling in the family car or on someone's person. It is likely that all of the boxes in the moving van will get to the location safely and without a problem, but it is not worth the risk with something so special. Instead of leaving the fate of great grandma's engagement ring in the hands of a mover, take responsibility for it and keep it with other important items.
Packing jewelry is one of the little tasks that often gets left until late in the move because no one anticipates how challenging it may be. The best way to go about it is to pack each piece individually so that nothing becomes tangled or broken during the move. Moving to a new home is not a reason to put valuable and beloved pieces of jewelry at risk.
