Packing Food during a Move to Prevent Spoilage and Loss
When a family is packing food for a move, it is necessary to keep in mind a few tips to make the process as easy and cheap as possible. People must separate the foods into different groups and pack them according to certain distinctions. This will ensure the survival of the food and the containers that house them while in transit.
The very first thing to do when packing food for a move is to eat or throw away any perishable items found in the refrigerator. These items will more than likely spoil while in the back of moving van and can cause bad smells to adhere to other materials packed in the moving truck. This may cost money, but a good tip is to not buy anymore perishable items when a move is getting close.
After perishable foods are removed, the next step in packing food is to make take all canned and jarred food stuffs and pack them in smaller boxes. Reinforce the bottoms of the boxes to keep these objects from falling through and breaking. Also, secure the items in the box with paper to keep these items from moving around too much while being moved.
Once these items are safely stowed away, people can then move on to packing other lighter, dry foods. These types of food can be placed in medium sized boxes without fear of the bottom dropping out because they are lighter in weight. Packing food like pasta, cereals, and snacks in these boxes tightly will save room in the back of the moving truck as well.
Packing food away for a move can save a person on the expenses of completely restocking a pantry when reaching their new place of residence. Do not pack any perishable items, pack heavier cans and jars in reinforced small boxes, and dry foods in larger medium sized boxes. These tips will help any family eat a hearty meal when they reach their new home.
