Moving Medical Records Before or After Your Move
One part of relocating that people do not often considered until an emergency arises is moving medical records. It is important to make sure that all medical records are at very least headed to their new destination before moving to a new area. The downsides of not accounting for this paper work could cost anyone dearly when looking for medical treatment during an emergency.
The first thing to consider when moving medical records to a new area is to locate the physician that will be replacing an old doctor. By identifying a doctor before a move is actually conducted, records a can be shipped quickly from office to office. However, this may come at a price because most medical offices will charge for this service.
Another way to transport all the medical documents required by new doctor's offices is to photocopy them and transport them along during the move. This ensures that people carry their documents with them, which can be extremely helpful if an emergency occurs. However, due to the clutter and high volume of paper created when moving medical records, these documents become more easily lost.
Doctors do not always know who to recommend, especially if a person or family is moving a across the country. For this reason, people may not be able to choose their new doctor's before moving. At very least, anyone who moves should make it a point to find each type of doctor, dental, or eye doctor once they land in their new homes. This way moving medical records can go where they need to get quickly.
Moving medical records before or after a move can be determined by looking at the total distance that can be traveled. Records can either be shipped to a new office or taken along for the ride in photocopy form. There are pluses and minuses with each scenario; however, this can be made easier if a doctor is found in a new hometown before the actual move itself.
